Our BJ paper on the role of oxidized lipids in the BAX induced cell apoptosis is finally out! Congrats to Pawel et al for this great achievement!

This work demonstrates that a consistent amount of membrane-associated BAX molecules is required to open pores of sufficient size for the passage of molecules like cytochrome C, irrespective of BAX activation or the exposure of membranes to oxidative stress. It elucidates that oxidized phospholipids enhance BAX recruitment to the membrane and facilitate BAX insertion culminating in intensified pore opening kinetics, albeit with differential effects depending on the type and concentration of oxidized lipids. You can read more here: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bpj.2024.08.017
