History

The tradition was started in 1967 and maintained for 24 years by Professor A.A.Vlcek, then director of the J.Heyrovský Institute. Later on the organization of these meetings circulates among senior scientists (electrochemists) of the J. Heyrovský Institute under patronage of the director of the Institute.

The Heyrovský Discussion took place always in one of the conference centers of the Czech Academy. Originally, the Discussions were held at the Liblice castle, later in castle Bechynì and recently it has taken place at the renaissance castle Trest in southeastern Bohemia, in an attractive, peaceful locality rich in historical monuments and of beautiful natural scenery.

The Heyrovský Discussions have been organized during the last four decades every year by the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Each year a different field of electrochemistry is selected as the discussion theme. The total number of participants is limited to about 50-60 by the capacity of the Castle.

It is hoped that continuing the tradition of the Heyrovský Discussions will foster further progress of electrochemical science in the spirit of creative international cooperation.

This year's meeting goes beyond electrochemistry and invites scientists working in the field of low-dimensional materials to discuss a wider range of fundamental aspects relevant to the research of 2D and 1D materials at the J. Heyrovsky Institute.

The last meeting with a similar topic was organized in 2018.
