Programs for the public
How to engage the public and inform them about the results of our daily findings, science and research (R&D)? What happens behind the doors of our laboratories? These are questions that have long troubled scientists. One solution, alongside media outputs promoting R&D, is our participation in science festivals and fairs with exhibits that bring R&D closer to the public through educational programs. We regularly participate in these popularisation programs:
Science Fair (usually held at the beginning of June) – not being at the Science Fair in Letňany means you don’t exist. Nearly 40,000 visitors always pass through the gates of the three-day fair. The Institute's stand regularly offers insight into various scientific topics (through video presentations, roll-ups, and small exhibits). For pupils and students, we prepare educational stations at the stand with solutions to experimental tasks.
Researchers' Night (usually held at the end of September) – the goal of this program is to attract those interested in science to visit our Institute. The program is designed to be diverse to attract both adult audiences (lab tours, lectures, presentations showcasing various research fields, film screenings, etc.) and families with children or school groups. Interactive programmes, such as workshops, chemical theatre, or quiz stations, are designed just for them. The programme is also complemented by musical productions provided by the Institute's scientists.
Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences (usually held at the beginning of November) – in addition to the traditional Open Day, which is dedicated to secondary school or university students and, interested members of the public (considering of lectures and laboratory tours), we also organise several workshops and chemical theatres for primary school students who visit us or we go to visit them at their schools.
In addition to these events, the institute prepares short-term exhibitions, either promoting scientific results or research fields, or exhibitions that connect science and art.
Throughout the year, we also cooperate with several old people´ s houses, where we offer popular science lectures or other events.
Anyone interested in this kind of cooperation can contact us to arrange a programme: kvetoslava.stejskalova
