ELectroChemistry with HOmologs of Roentgenium (ELCHOR)
The project can be classified as fundamental research on electrochemically aided separations of Ag and Au traces in aqueous solution. The envisaged experiments aim at identifying optimal experimental conditions for future experiments with their heavier homolog, Rg. Observed interactions will be evaluated according to the theoretical model by Eichler and Kratz as well as thereof made advancements. A state-of-the-art flow-through electrolytic cell will be developed and tested with carrier-free radionuclides accessible at research institutes in Czechia or in Switzerland. Such a system represents a technology that is also required in other applied fields or research, e.g., for the provision of radionuclides for applications in nuclear medicine. A close cooperation during the experimental campaigns at nuclear research facilities in both countries is expected. The combination of nuclear and radiochemists with electrochemists ensures the necessary complementary expertise for reaching the proposed research goals, excellence in experiment design and theoretical contextualization of research.
