Identification and Characterization of Electrodegradation Products of Xenobiotics in the Environment
The occurrence of persistent organic xenobiotics of various origins in the environment is a serious global problem. These substances with negative impacts on ecosystems and organisms can negatively affect hormonal systems, even at ultratrace concentrations. Therefore, their removal from drinking and wastewater is highly relevant. The advanced electrochemical degradation methods appear to be a suitable tool for their effective destruction. The main goal of this project will be to identify and characterize the properties and time stability of formed intermediates and final destruction products. Additionally, suitable electrode materials and their arrangement will be investigated and tested for the realization of advanced electrochemical degradation processes of selected xenobiotics under various working conditions.
