Multifunctional monolithic aerogels for efficient water purification

The main goal of our proposal is the development of a new class of hybrid composites that physically integrate photocatalyst with aerogel-like morphology (TiO2, ZnO, LDHs) supported by monolithic carbon whose properties can be tuned by consequent functionalization with small organic molecules. Multifunctional hybrid nanocomposites are a new class of materials with properties that often outperform their bulk counterparts. The possibility to control properties of multifunctional hybrid nanocomposites by design of their morphology and interface is the main reason why these materials have great potential for application in new and emerging technologies including wastewater treatment.
