International Membrane Biophysics Meeting was held in Drübeck Monastery May 6th to 8th, 2024
In the first half of May, the 'International Membrane Biophysics Meeting' was traditionally held, this time under the subtitle 'From Model to Cellular Membranes'. The conference was organized by Radek Šachl (J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry) and Christian Nehls (Research Center Borstel) under the auspices of the German Biophysical Society in the beautiful location of Drübeck Monastery located in Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. This location offers everything needed for such a specialized meeting from a modern conference room, accommodation and complete catering.
Nearly 100 participants from all over the world attended the conference. Although there were many more people interested, the limited capacity of the lecture hall of the monastery did not allow all interested people to attend. The conference lasted three days and was divided into the following thematic areas: Membrane models; Techniques to overcome boundaries; Proteins in the membrane context; Membrane technology and From simulation to membrane complexity. The program also included two evening lectures given by Michelle Digmann from the University of Irvine, USA (Lipid Polarity in Alzheimer's Disease Pathogenesis) and Milka Doktorova from the University of Virginia, USA (Balancing imbalances to enable function: A new view of plasma membrane organization). In total, there were 12 invited lectures, 17 short 20 min lectures and 49 posters.
All posters competed for the Best Poster Award given by the BBA Biomembranes journal. Due to the strong competition, the prize was divided among four winners: Sarah Crocoll (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg), Janina Nandy (Research Center Borstel), Ronja Paschke (Freie Universität Berlin), and Kaur Maanpret (Heidelberg University). Congratulations to all winners!
The next conference will take place in approximately two years. We are already looking forward to it!
We would like to thank all conference participants for their active participation and the pleasant and inspiring atmosphere,
On behalf of the organizers
Radek Šachl
