The proposed project addresses the key issues of the synthesis, modification and characterization of novel so-called two-dimensional (2D) zeolites with easy accessibility of the active sites. 2D zeolites were synthesized very rarely by hydrothermal treatment. Our recent discovery shows that some 3D zeolites can be transformed to 2D lamellar system with adjustable architecture (pillaring, swelling, stabilization, delamination). The project will be focused on the synthesis of new materials derived from the following types of zeolites (UTL, MFI, MWW, TUN). Proper combination of tailored synthesis with optimized chemical composition and novel structure directing agents will result in the synthesis of new zeolites with enhanced adsorption and particularly catalytic properties. Combination of XRD, SEM, FTIR, sorption measurements, chemical analysis, TEM, and NMR enables detailed description of the textural and chemical properties of zeolites studied. Catalytic functioning of novel zeolites will be performed using bulky substrates to evidence high activity of these new zeolite catalysts.
