PhD student in optics and material science

A leading research institute in Prague, Czechia, named after Nobel laureate in Chemistry, J. Heyrovsky, is seeking a doctoral researcher in the field of optics and material science.

Job status: Part-time

Starting date: September 2024 

We are seeking a doctoral student to join the research group of Vladimira Petrakova at the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry in Prague. Our project aims to study fluorescence of materials modified by ultrafast lasers. Our research employs methods such as single molecule microscopy and spectroscopy including time-resolved techniques. 

This position is part of a collaborative project with Rochester University USA and Czech Technical University. Our group is rapidly growing and offers a dynamic, open, friendly, and collaborative environment. We value independence, diversity, and inclusivity. 

The ideal candidate will hold a master's degree in optics, engineering, material science, or a related field. Experience in single-molecule microscopy and/or spectroscopy is highly desirable. Knowledge of optics, fluorescence, data analysis, polymer chemistry, and material science is an advantage. The project is highly interdisciplinary and will require excellent communication skills and a curiosity about other fields.
