Researcher in the field of Zeolite Synthesis and Heterogeneous Catalysis
A leading research institute in Prague, Czechia, named after Nobel laureate in Chemistry, J. Heyrovsky, is seeking a researcher in the field of Zeolite Synthesis and Heterogeneous Catalysis.
Type of contract: Temporary (2 years) with possible prolongation
Job status: Full-time
Starting date: 01.05.2025 (negotiable)
Job Description
The deactivation of zeolite-based catalysts due to the deposition of high-molecular-weight carbon species (coke) remains a major challenge in the methanol-to-hydrocarbons (MTH) process. This project aims to address this issue by synthesizing and modifying zeolite materials to enhance their resistance to coking while maintaining catalytic efficiency. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and preparing a variety of zeolite catalysts tailored for neutron diffraction studies and catalytic testing.
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to join our team for a Czech Science Foundation-funded project focused on synthesizing and characterizing zeolite catalysts. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in an international research environment and collaborate with experts in catalysis, neutron diffraction, and spectroscopy.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Synthesize and modify zeolite materials with tailored framework compositions, pore architectures, and acid site distributions.
- Conduct post-synthetic modifications, such as ion exchange, desilication, and dealumination, to tune zeolite properties.
- Characterize zeolite catalysts using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD),
- Collaborate with team members to provide well-defined samples for neutron diffraction and catalytic testing.
- Participate in operando neutron diffraction studies of zeolite catalysts.
- Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research at international conferences and workshops.
Required Qualifications
- A PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field.
- Expertise in zeolite synthesis, including hydrothermal crystallization and post-synthetic modifications.
- Strong background in solid-state characterization techniques such as XRD
. - Hands-on experience in heterogeneous catalysis and catalyst evaluation.
- Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
- A strong publication track record demonstrating expertise in materials synthesis and characterization.
Desired Skills
- Experience with the synthesis of medium- and large-pore zeolites.
- Knowledge of structure-property relationships in zeolite catalysis.
- Ability to work efficiently both as part of a team and independently.
Benefits
- A friendly and motivating working environment at a renowned research institute.
- Five weeks of paid leave per year, plus an additional five days for personal reasons and three days of paid sick leave.
- Flexible working hours.
- Access to childcare groups on the CAS campus.
- Sports equipment rental, free parking, and access to libraries.
- Czech and English language courses.
- Opportunities for further education and professional development through institute-organized courses.
