Heyrovský Technology Transfer Center receives SIGMA program support

The J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences has achieved a significant milestone by securing financial support through the TAČR competition under the SIGMA program. This program aims to accelerate the commercialization of technologies developed through applied research. The Heyrovský Technology Transfer Center (HCTT) has launched its first internal call for "proof of concept" projects.

Supporting innovation with commercial potential

The SIGMA programme targets innovative projects that have a high potential for practical application in the form of new or improved products and services. These should be ready for practical use or market entry after the project has been implemented. It is expected that project proposals will be those with a level of technology readiness at least at the level of laboratory validation.

This first call supports one-year projects with a budget of up to CZK 1 million, with applications open until the end of October 2024. Successful projects will be implemented from January 2025.

Key role of the Commercialization council

The Commercialization Council, mainly comprising commercial sector representatives, will have the final say in project approval. It will assess whether the submitted projects meet the required criteria and show significant commercial potential. Selection criteria will focus on the uniqueness of the technology, market impact, and commercialization strategy.

HCTT Seminar

On October 3, 2024, a seminar was held at the J. Heyrovský Institute, where HCTT staff Jiří Trnka and Věra Mansfeldová provided details on the rules and conditions of the call and answered questions about participation. This seminar offered valuable insights for potential applicants, helping them understand the process from application submission to project approval.

Looking ahead

The SIGMA program will run until 2028, with annual calls for projects, providing researchers with ample time to develop and implement innovative ideas. This long-term plan offers significant opportunities for the development of new technologies in the Czech Republic.
